winPTE is a free practice site for the PTE Academic exam. This page says, in plain words, what we keep about you, who else handles it, and how to take it back.
What we store
- Your account, if you make one: your email address, an optional name, your password (stored only as a bcrypt hash, never readable), and the exam date and target score you choose to set.
- Your practice: the answers you submit (essays, summaries, the options you pick), the transcript of each spoken answer and its word timings, the scores and feedback you were given, and how long you spent on each task. Practice without an account is stored too, with no name or email attached to it.
- Questions you report: which question, the reason you picked and any note you write. If you are signed in the report is linked to your account, and deleting the account deletes it.
- How the site is used: page views and errors, with the page address and a random session id your browser makes up — and, when something goes wrong, the kind of device and browser (for example “iOS · Safari”), never its full identifier. Your IP address is not kept in our database: the server’s request logs record it for a few days before they are deleted automatically, and the rate limits and daily scoring allowance hold it in memory until the day ends.
Your voice recordings
When you answer a speaking task, your recording is sent to Groq, a speech-recognition service, to be turned into text, and to Microsoft (Azure AI Speech) to assess your pronunciation sound by sound. We delete the recording from our server as soon as that finishes; we never keep the audio. The transcript, your score and the feedback are saved with your attempt.
Who else handles your data
- Oracle Cloud hosts the site and its database, in Singapore.
- Groq transcribes spoken answers and provides the machine scoring of written and spoken answers.
- Microsoft (Azure AI Speech) assesses the pronunciation in spoken answers.
- OpenRouter is our backup for machine scoring when Groq is busy. It passes your answer to the model provider behind it; free models there may keep what they are sent under their own terms.
- Google Drive holds our encrypted nightly backups. We keep the last 14.
- Telegram delivers error alerts to the person who runs winPTE. Alerts never include your email address.
- An email provider delivers password-reset emails, and only those.
We do not sell your data, show advertising, or load third-party trackers.
How long we keep it
- Your account and practice history: until you delete your account.
- Page-view and error records: 90 days.
- Backups: nightly backups are replaced within 14 days, so deleted data leaves them by then. A copy taken just before a database upgrade is kept until it is removed by hand.
Your choices
- Download everything we store about your account from the Account page.
- Delete your account from the same page. It removes your account, every attempt, your skill profile, your lessons and the activity records linked to your account, at once.
- For anything else — a correction, a question, or practice you did without an account — write to loading…. You can also complain to the data-protection authority where you live.
Cookies and storage
Signing in sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in; it is not used for anything else. Your browser also remembers your theme, your progress through a mock test and which questions you have seen, on your device only.
Age
You must be 16 or older to create an account.
